When my daughter was about 4 or 5, she was planning a trip to stay with her Auntie Karen (whom Baby Girl all but worshiped) for a whole week. This would be her first time away from home for so long without me, and I was having a little trouble gearing up for the separation. A couple of days before the Big Trip, Auntie Karen called Baby Girl to talk about all the fun things they would do together. Of course, my intake of the conversation was all one-sided, listening to Baby Girl chatting away, but it went something like this:
“Great! … Wow! … I can’t wait! … Can I come tomorrow instead?” (By this time, I was beginning to simmer, slowly…nothing I did ever seemed to get her so excited …) then — *deep, heavy sigh* (and in a very weary voice) — “I’ll go see Batman with you, Auntie Karen, but I don’t want to watch it with you Forever!” My heart was instantly lightened …

Does the sight of buttery, toasty bread, and melted cheese make you stop dead in your tracks? Then don’t pass this book by! I was looking for a book that would give me unusual sandwich ideas — you know, beyond lunch meat-and-lettuce-and-tomato. The cover photo alone would have made me stop and pick this one up (and it did), but the recipes and photos inside go well beyond the norm. Now, try the Grilled Pumpernickel and Gouda with Parsley-Tarragon Mustard, the Mediterranean Meltdown, or the Smoky Bacon and Cheddar with Chipotle Relish. Yumm! In addition to the many sandwich ideas, there are sweets, salads, and soups to accompany your sandwich choice. If you like to collect cookbooks, or just want a book that will give you new ideas to use on your indoor or pannini grill — this one will fit the bill.

You’ve got the power of
Sounds to us like you are a funny, easygoing mom who loves to lighten the mood with a laugh. It doesn’t matter if you’re trading jokes with your kids, practicing your wrestling moves on them, or just kicking back with the family for a night of silly sitcoms, you’ve got an addictive, childlike energy that makes you a blast to be around. And here’s a bonus: Mellow mamas who know how to laugh at themselves can really help their kids unwind and put their own problems in perspective…
Of course, you know that sometimes you’ve got to play the stern mom role (like when your kids break your basic rules), but you’re likely to feel much more like yourself when you’re sitting next to your kids, riding roller coasters, pigging out on junk food — or giving them their goodnight noogies.

Your TV Mom is
You are Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls. A traditional mama you aren’t, but that doesn’t mean you don’t love your kids or aren’t great in this role. You like to put a modern twist on things — no need to become your mother, after all — although sometimes you might wonder if that wouldn’t be all bad…
You probably believe in being friends with your child, and you try your best to be open and honest about your choices, good or bad, past or present. You like being known as the cool mom in the neighborhood that your kids’ friends can come to if they need an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes your children may wish they had a mom that acted like everyone else’s — or at least one who didn’t raid their closets and acted her age. But most of the time, they think you’re pretty cool. And that’s fine by you, because the feeling is mutual.

Your true color is Green!
You’re green, the color of growth and vigor. Good-hearted and giving, you have a knack for finding and bringing out the best in people. Green is the most down-to-earth color in the spectrum — reliable and trustworthy. ..
People know they can count on you to be around in times of need, since your concern for people is genuine and sincere. You take pride in being a good friend. For you, success is measured in terms of personal achievement and growth, not by status or position. Rare as emeralds, greens are wonderful, natural people. It truly is your color!

You can simplify your life by
You’re a responsible individual who people know they can depend on to help them out or to follow through on an assignment. Trying to keep on top of your own responsibilities is hard enough work. When you’ve got a reputation for taking care of others, too, it’s easy to get stressed out…
It’s great that you care so much, but when you find yourself making lists at night instead of counting sheep, or nibbling your nails instead of lunch, you know you’ve got to cut yourself some slack. Sure, it’s easy for us to tell you to lighten up, but the world isn’t really resting on your shoulders alone. Try squeezing in a little “me” time into your daily routine to watch TV or get your nails done. Now that’s some advice that you should take seriously.
